West Coast Metis Jiggers
World Famous Métis Jiggers
Métis Family Services offers a weekly dance class. The group is called the West Coast Métis Jiggers.
Lisa Shepherd has been the instructor since May 2009. Lisa is a talented Metis artist and dancer.
There are approximately thirty children in the group ranging from ages three to fifteen. The children love their dance classes as much as performing and the dance is a strong thread in the community to bring people together, to promote pride, build self-esteem and to celebrate our Métis culture. The youth are very proud to share what they know as Métis people. They have practiced very hard to develop their skills and knowledge of Métis Culture.
The children have performed for many festivals and events including, Margo Kane’s Talking Stick Festival, The Vancouver International Children’s Festival, Aboriginal Child and Welfare Conference, Aboriginal Day and numerous other cultural and community events.
