Be a Community Mentor
Purpose
The purpose of the Seven Generations Mentoring program is to connect Aboriginal Youth between the ages of 10-24 with healthy Mentors 19 and up. The Mentor will engage with a young person in a one on one mentoring relationship for a minimum of one year. The Mentors will use life experience as a teaching tool to help guide a young person forward in their growth and development. A Mentor will take their Mentee out for 1-2 hours weekly in the community. The kinds of activities the pair participates in are safe, fun and engaging. A Mentor will be a source of inspiration, strength who will guide and support the youth.
Our service area includes: Surrey, Delta, Tsawwassen, Ladner & White Rock
Responsibilities
Submit monthly outing reports, build rapport with community, attend quarterly gatherings, plan and carry out weekly activities with youth.
Skills and Attributes: Open to all volunteers 19 and up
Fun, out going, energetic, committed individual, active listener, cultural teachings or open to learning cultural teachings, reliable and supportive.
Relationships
Mentorship Coordinator, Metis Family Services, the Family and Community.
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours weekly for a minimum of one year.
